Ios Kykladon
Ios is located between Naxos, Sikinos and Santorini. The whitewashed villages and the beautiful sandy beaches will fascinate you. In the late 60s, Ios became a popular destination for young tourists, especially for hippies, who chose Mylopotas beach to camp in groups. The relaxing atmosphere but also the fancy parties, made the island famous around the world. Ios is still a favorite destination for Greek and foreign young tourists.
The locals used to call the island Nios. It is an island that manages to combine youthful spree with secluded places that offer tranquility in the beauty of the Cycladic landscape. On Ios you will find remote beaches with crystal clear waters, countryside paths which will lead you to Byzantine and medieval monuments, churches and monasteries and ruins of old farmhouses. On the ship to Ios you will meet cheerful youngsters but also travelers who seek relaxing holidays and are interested in discovering the historical and archaeological aspect of the island. How to get there:
- By boat: Ios is connected to the port of Piraeus as well as other islands of the Cyclades. The trip from Piraeus takes about 7 hours by ferry while it takes 3 1/2 hours with a speedboat. The frequency of the routes vary according to the season.
- By plane: There is no airport on Ios, the nearest one is that of Santorini with a modern and fully equipped helipad.
